Managing Residual Lens Material After Posterior Capsular Rupture
After posterior capsule rupture, removal of residual lens material is a challenging but important goal. Sequential, interdependent strategies to accomplish this include the Viscoat PAL, the Viscoat Trap, bimanual pars plana anterior vitrectomy, and bimanual irrigation–aspiration of cortex. Once brought into the anterior chamber, the nucleus can be removed either with phacoemulsification above a...
متن کاملPHACO NIGHTMARES Posterior Capsular Rupture
INTRODUCTION Any breach in the continuity of the posterior capsule is defined as a posterior capsule tear. Intrasurgical posterior capsule tears are the most common and can occur during any stage of cataract surgery. 1-3 The incidence of posterior capsule complications is related to the type of cataract and conditions of the eye, increases with the grade of difficulty of the case, and furthermo...
متن کاملOutcome of Single-piece Intraocular Lens Sulcus Implantation following Posterior Capsular Rupture during Phacoemulsification
PURPOSE To assess the safety and outcome of single-piece posterior chamber intraocular lens (PC-IOL) implantation in the ciliary sulcus following posterior capsular rupture during cataract surgery. METHODS Patients with posterior capsular rupture during cataract surgery with a single-piece acrylic IOL implanted into the ciliary sulcus were studied. Complete ocular examinations were performed ...
متن کاملIsolated posterior capsular rupture following blunt head trauma
Closed-globe traumatic cataract is not uncommon in males in the pediatric age group. However, there is a relative paucity of literature on isolated posterior lens capsule rupture associated with closed-globe traumatic cataract. We report a case of a 6-year-old boy who presented with white cataract 1 day after blunt trauma to the forehead associated with posterior capsular rupture that was detec...
متن کاملAnterior capsular rupture following blunt ocular injury.
A 10-year-old boy suffered a large, oblique anterior capsular tear following blunt injury to his right eye. The boy was followed daily for hyphema resolution and progressive traumatic cataract formation. After the hyphema had resolved, the lens was removed using an anterior approach and an intraocular lens was placed with excellent visual outcome.
